Background Noise Project

Four laser-engraved linocut blocks--of landfill, lumber, rock strata, and prairie grasses--from hand-drawn positives, mounted on hand-constructed paperboard rollers. The result is a continuous, progressively lighter impression of each image to reference how scenery, no matter how arresting, quickly becomes ignorable pattern.

Each roller drum is 24" long, with a 7" circumference; 2018.

Product produced from this project is employed in other works including Leveled and Prospect.
